Cairns are the earth or stone mounds that can form part of a range of different burial monuments, including long barrows, round barrows, and portal dolmens — as at Dyffryn Ardudwy.
You should not walk on the cairn, as it could be dangerous and cause damage to the site.
Cairns can sometimes be very difficult to spot, as they can be little more to the naked eye than a small area of ground on which heather does not grow.
Tips for photographing:
Due to the large amount of stones on a cairn site, these can be very difficult to photograph.
You should walk around the outside of the cairn taking photographs at eye-level.
You should then circle the cairn again taking photographs from lower down and higher up to cover different angles.
